Robot Beats Elite Human Players in Table Tennis

This was simply a victory week for robots against humans—if such a competition exists. After a humanoid robot beat the human world record for the half marathon last week in China, this week saw a robot playing table tennis not only give a hard time but also defeat elite human players, winning 3 out of 7 matches. The robot, called “Ace,” is in the form of an industrial robot arm with a moving base, made by Sony AI.

With the current pace of robotics advancement, we will soon see not only humanoids playing table tennis, but also competing with and surpassing humans in many sports.
